State of Delaware Announces Partnership with Google to Expand Access to Digital Skills Training Through Grow with Google
WILMINGTON, Del.— The State of Delaware is proud to announce a new partnership with Google through its Grow with Google initiative to expand access to digital skills training and workforce development opportunities for Delaware residents.
Through this partnership, Delaware residents will have increased access to Google Career Certificates and AI Courses designed to prepare individuals for in-demand careers in growing industries that require digital and technical skills.
“Every Delawarean deserves access to the skills they need to succeed in today’s economy. Through our partnership with Grow with Google, we’re removing barriers to high-quality training by providing free, flexible, industry recognized credentials that people can complete at their own pace,” said LaKresha Moultrie, Secretary of Labor.
Nearly two-thirds of all new jobs created since 2010 require either high- or medium-level digital skills, yet one in three American workers have very limited or no digital skills. To help bridge that gap, Google created the Google Career Certificates program.
Grow with Google launched Google Career Certificates in 2018 to support skilling for in-demand fields. The certificates are available in AI, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Digital Marketing and E-Commerce, IT Support, Project Management, and User Experience (UX) Design. The certificates do not require a degree or prior experience and can be completed online within three to six months of part-time study.
The program also includes an employer consortium of more than 150 companies, including Walmart, Verizon, and Google, that are committed to considering certificate graduates for relevant entry-level roles.
“Delaware is committed to creating accessible pathways to economic mobility and ensuring our workforce is prepared for the demands of today’s economy,” said Joanna Staib, Director of the Delaware Office of Workforce Development. “This partnership with Grow with Google will help Delaware residents gain valuable digital skills that lead directly to employment opportunities in high-demand industries while supporting employers that need skilled talent.”
“We are committed to driving economic opportunity across Delaware and ensuring the benefits of technology are accessible to everyone,” said Lisa Gevelber, Founder of Grow with Google. “We’re proud to partner with the state to offer Google Career Certificates and AI courses to all Delaware residents, equipping them with the tools they need to grow their skills, careers, and businesses.”
“Whether someone is starting a new career, advancing in their current job, or building skills in areas like AI, cybersecurity, or project management, these certificates create new opportunities. Our goal is simple: to help as many Delawareans as possible gain the skills employers are looking for, because when one Delawarean succeeds, our entire state is stronger. Partnerships with Tech Hubs across the state will expand equitable access to digital skills training and industry-recognized credentials across Delaware strengthening workforce pipelines aligned with state and employer needs. We have launched Department of Labor’s partnership with Delaware Libraries as a Tech Hub to offer free Google Career Certificates to Delawareans,” said Secretary Moultrie.
Since its launch, more than one million people globally, including more than 400,000 individuals in the United States, have graduated from the Google Career Certificates program. Over seventy percent of graduates report a positive career impact, such as a new job, higher pay, or a promotion, within six months of completion.
The partnership aligns with Delaware’s broader workforce development strategy to expand nontraditional pathways into high-growth careers and strengthen the state’s talent pipeline through innovative public-private partnerships.
Tech Hubs across the state include Delaware Libraries, Code Differently, Middletown High School, Howard High School, Teen Warehouse, Futures First Gaming, Ready Prompt One, Delcastle Technical High School, Pathways To Success, Sussex Technical High School, Polytech School District, Kent County 4-H, Delaware State University, Laurel Delaware, Delaware Futures, and Goodwill Industries.
Additional information regarding participating technology hub locations, enrollment opportunities, and available support services can be obtained through the Delaware Department of Labor Division of Employment and Training.
